Choir "Exchange"Trip

The Society has visited our friends in Chatillon twice now and we intend to maintain contact with them in the future. It is hoped that members of their society will visit Somerset soon to re-new our association. Our last trip to Chatillon proved to be a huge success (see notes below) and a further trip would no doubt be even more successful. Once details of an exchange trip has been finalised, we will publish details here. This could well be very popular and places may be in high demand. Early booking is recommended.

Reflections on the trip to Chatillon-sur-Indre

by Pam Anderton

It's hard to begin to describe the wonderful welcome we all received from our friends in Chatillon.  We were entertained with such kindness and generosity.  The sightseeing trips Jo Vernon had arranged to a wine tasting, the Brenne National Park and two chateaux during our stay went without a hitch and were most enjoyable.  She had worked so hard to make everything run smoothly from start to our tearful departure, and Peter’s efforts as our mighty leader were also greatly appreciated.

The joint concert with Paroles en L’air went well.  There was a good audience and we were even asked to do an encore.  Jenny Broom was wonderful.  Despite all the problems of lack of time for rehearsals and the fact that the only occasion we were a complete assembly was in Chatillon, she succeeded in licking us into shape.

There was a hiccup with the keyboard having been transported, at some effort, to France it was found to be incompatible with the sockets in the church and no adaptor could be found in time for the concert.  We had to manage with an unfamiliar instrument belonging to our French colleagues.  Well done Janice!

At a great party on the last night Jenny who speaks good French, which helped enormously, and Jo were presented with books about the Berry area and Peter as “Monsieur le President” was given a large bottle of bubbly.

I think I speak for everyone when I say “We returned home (laden with gifts) with wonderful memories”  Roll on the next meeting with our fellow singers!
