We are delighted to announce that the nationally and
internationally famous composer, conductor and singer, Bob Chilcott, has become the next President of the South Somerset Choral
Society.
Bob has impeccable
musical credentials having begun his career as a boy chorister, and
later a choral scholar, in the renowned choir of King’s College,
Cambridge. He was later a member of the "King’s Singers", but is now a
full-time composer, specialising in Christmas music. Recordings of his
work (including by Wells Cathedral Choir) are widely popular. As
conductor he has worked in more than 30 countries and he is Principal
Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers.
Bob
said: "I am delighted to have been invited to become the President of
South Somerset Choral Society. Choirs are working very hard to engage
with their singers at this time, and I hope that I can join them
virtually before too long, and I look forward greatly to future collaboration."
Tim Donaldson, our Musical Director, said: "As we say farewell to our retiring President, the wonderful Bill Llewellyn, it is a great privilege to welcome Bob in his place. Having someone of Bob's stature and who is such a great ambassador for choirs and choral music is a great privilege for us, and I am thrilled that he has agreed to add us to the list of organisations he supports. We're looking forward to a great partnership!"
